This Didn't Start with You: Healing Your Lineage
Welcome, everyone. I’m so grateful you’re here for the Tuesday Talks at 10:30 recap. This is a moment in time created several years ago. It is meant to be a safe space to explore your spiritual path. We touch upon many subjects, from grief to connecting to spirit and our higher selves, stone energy, and so much more. We talk about how to come back home to ourselves when we feel that we’ve gotten off track. But this is that place where you can sit without judgment, without fixing, and just have the ability to say, “Hmm, I wonder, I wonder if, I wonder why, maybe someone else is experiencing the same types of things that I am. Guess what? I’m not crazy. So, whether you are live or on replay or reading the blog, you have arrived at the exact moment you were meant to be here.
Welcome back, all returning connection tribe, and if this is your 1st time here, welcome to the connecting family. I am so glad you found us. I welcome you all in with open arms.
I’m a Spiritual Healer, Author, Retreat Facilitator, Keynote Speaker, and Evidential Medium, Stacey Niedentohl. I wear many spiritual hats, and my passion is to meet you where you are in your journey of healing and growing. I want you to know there is no judgment, no fixing; you are not broken. Whether you are on a healing journey, or a spiritual journey, or just you’re curious, and you are just wanting to know the what ifs, the whys, the hows, you are amongst friends.
So, I’ve been sitting with something lately. Something that’s been tugging at me in that quiet, persistent way. You know when something keeps showing up in conversations, in memories, in those little moments of reflection? That is my clue to pay attention. It’s like Spirit is snapping their fingers and saying, “Listen up.” That’s how the topic of ancestral wisdom has been for me.
I’ve been thinking about how none of us arrive here as blank slates. We come from stories. We come from people who lived whole lives before we ever took our first breath. And whether we realize it or not, we carry pieces of them; their strength, their fears, their habits, their hopes.
The things that make me go hmm. Those are the exact topics I want to talk about with you. I want to think about the traits we inherit, the wisdom we carry, and the patterns we get to heal. Not in a heavy way… but in a freeing, empowering. When we think “ohhh, that makes sense now.”
What Ancestral Wisdom Really Means
When I say “ancestral wisdom”, I’m talking about the emotional DNA we inherit. The unspoken rules. The survival strategies. The ways our families learned to love, protect, and cope.
Think about it…
Maybe your grandmother learned to keep the house spotless because chaos outside the home felt dangerous. Maybe your grandfather worked himself to the bone because rest wasn’t an option where he came from. Maybe your mother learned to stay quiet to stay safe. Maybe your father learned to never ask for help because vulnerability wasn’t allowed.
And here we are… decades later… still carrying those patterns without even knowing where they came from. Learned traits or ancestral wisdom in our DNA? You decide.
The Traits We Carry: The Blessings & The Burdens
Some traits feel like gifts:
resilience
intuition
creativity
empathy
resourcefulness
And some traits feel like burdens:
people‑pleasing
perfectionism
emotional suppression
fear of conflict
money scarcity
hyper‑independence
Let me tell you a little story…
I noticed this instinct in myself. I handle certain things alone. Even when I was exhausted. Even when help was right there. I’d say, ‘No, I’m fine, I’ve got it.’ And one day I realized… that wasn’t my voice. That was my mother’s voice. And her mother’s voice. Women who didn’t have the luxury of leaning on anyone. And suddenly, it made sense. It wasn’t a flaw. It was an inheritance. But once I saw it, I could choose differently.
The Moment You Realize: “This Didn’t Start with Me”
Have you ever reacted bigger than the situation called for? Or felt guilt that didn’t match the moment? Or found yourself repeating a pattern you swore you’d never repeat? Those moments are often ancestral echoes. It’s like your body remembers something your mind doesn’t. A fear that isn’t yours. A rule you never agreed to. A story you didn’t write. And when you finally say, ‘Wait… this isn’t mine,’ everything shifts.
How Ancestral Healing Works
Healing ancestral patterns isn’t about breaking curses. It’s about loosening what’s been wound too tightly. I want you to picture something with me.
Imagine your family’s patterns; the helpful ones and the heavy ones, like a ball of rubber bands. Every generation added a band. Some were added out of love, some out of fear, some out of survival. Over time, it became dense. Tight. Pressured. By the time it gets to you, you can feel that tension even if you don’t know where it came from.
And healing? When you begin healing, you’re not shattering anything. You’re simply cutting one band at a time. Healing is simply cutting one band. Just one. When you cut even one band, maybe it’s the silence, maybe it’s the people‑pleasing, maybe it’s the over‑functioning… the whole ball loosens. It softens. It breathes. Your ancestors feel that loosening. Your children feel that loosening. You feel that loosening. Because healing doesn’t just move forward, it moves backward too. It unwinds what was wound too tight. It gives your lineage the breath they never got to take. That one shift, that one act of awareness, compassion, or choice; creates space. And that space ripples backward and forward.
Let me say this again. It heals backwards as well, because your healing releases pressure your ancestors carried but never had the chance to unwind. Forward, because your healing makes the ball lighter for the generations who come after you. You’re not breaking a curse. You’re relieving tension. You’re loosening what was wound too tightly. You’re giving your lineage room to exhale.
This is how ancestral healing works:
Awareness: ‘Oh… this isn’t mine.’
Understanding: ‘Someone before me needed this.’
Compassion: ‘Thank you for protecting us.’
Choice: ‘I’m choosing differently now.’
Rewriting: ‘This pattern ends with me.’
Embodiment: living the new way, even in small steps.
You’re not destroying your lineage. You’re relieving it. You’re loosening the tension that’s been carried for generations. To me, that is so powerful. And I want to give you another picture (visual person here, can you tell?), one that helps us understand how our ancestors shaped us, and how we shape what comes next.
Imagine your lineage as a long winding path through an enchanted forest Your ancestors were the ones who walked first. Some parts glow with their wisdom. Some are shadowed by their wounds. Some twist because they were afraid. Some parts open wide because they loved deeply. They didn’t have a map. They didn’t have a guide. They didn’t know what was coming. They just walked with whatever strength, fear, wisdom, or wounds they carried. Their footsteps carved the earliest version of your path.
You are not responsible for the shadows they walked through. But you inherited the trail with their shadows. You are the one who carries the lantern now. Every time you heal a pattern, it’s like lighting another lantern along the path. Every time you choose differently, the forest shifts. Every time you soften, the trees move aside. Every time you speak, the air clears. Your ancestors walked the path. You illuminate it.
Practices You Can Start Today
Here are a few simple practices:
Name the trait: This perfectionism isn’t mine.
Trace the origin: Who taught me this? Who modeled this?
Bless the source: Thank you for keeping us safe. I’m choosing differently now.
Choose the new pattern: Rest. Boundaries. Speaking up. Receiving.
Embody it: One small action that proves the pattern is shifting.
You Are the Breaker & the Bridge
You are the one who loosens the rubber‑band ball. You are the one who becomes the bridge. You are the ancestor someone will thank someday. You’re not just healing yourself…you’re healing your lineage. All those who came before you and those who come after you.
So today, remember…
You are not starting from scratch. You are starting from generations of strength. And you get to decide what continues through you. Your ancestors gave you gifts. They also gave you burdens. And you, you my dear friend, right here, right now; get to choose what you keep and what you release.
Thank you for being the one who heals. Thank you for being the one who remembers. Thank you for being here, illuminating your path to live the life you love and love the life you live.
I love each and every one of you, and I’ll talk to you next week.
Have a magical day!
Stacey
