The Secret Power of Awareness…Transforming Sensitivity into Wisdom
Good morning, welcome back to the Tuesday Talks at 10:30 recap. A moment in time that was created several years ago. It is meant to be a safe space to explore your spiritual path. We touch upon many subjects, from grief to connecting to spirit and our higher selves, and so much more. Whether you are live or on replay or reading the blog, you have arrived at the exact moment you were meant to be here.
Welcome back, all returning connection tribe, and if this is your 1st time here, welcome to the connecting family. I am so glad you found us.
I’m a Spiritual Healer, Author, Retreat Facilitator, and Evidential Medium, Stacey Niedentohl. I wear many woo-woo hats, and my passion is to meet you where you are in your journey of healing and growing.
This month, we have explored emotional wisdom and intuition. We looked into moon work, water energy, emotional release, reflection. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been taking a journey inward.
With each conversation, I left you with a question. Our first conversation began with dreams and how our subconscious often speaks in symbols before our conscious mind is ready to listen. I left you with one question: “What part of me is still hurting?”
Then we shifted our focus to emotional wisdom and intuition. I shared an image of a lake. Imagine standing beside a lake after a storm. You can’t see the reflection until the storm passes. That’s when the lake becomes clear. I left you with the question, “What am I feeling?”
And last week we agreed that the moon isn’t full every night. Nature teaches us that change isn’t failure. It’s rhythm. And we’re healthiest when we stop fighting our own rhythms and begin paying attention to them. But rather using the moon as a monthly invitation to pause and reflect. A reminder to ask ourselves, “Where am I now?”
Before we begin, I’d like to ask you another question. Have you ever walked into a room and immediately known something wasn’t right, or answered the phone and somehow knew the person on the other end was hurting before they said a single word? Have you ever met someone for the first time and instantly felt either peace or caution?
Most of us have. Some people call that being an empath. Today, I’d like to retire that word. Not because it isn’t meaningful, but because somewhere along the way it became a limitation instead of a strength. I believe every human being has the capacity for heightened awareness. The difference isn’t who has it. The difference is what we do with it.
Awareness is part of being human. We’re constantly receiving information. A mother’s intuition. A gut feeling. The atmosphere in a room. The look on someone’s face that doesn’t match their words. We notice far more than we realize. Awareness is not rare. It’s human.
The gift isn’t the awareness. The gift is learning how to respond to it.
Everyone of us has the ability to feel energy in some way. We read a room before anyone speaks. We sense when a loved one isn’t okay. We feel drawn toward some people and hesitant around others. We call it intuition, instinct, chemistry, or a gut feeling, but whatever name we give it, we all experience it.
The gift isn’t in the feeling. The gift is in the response. Then taking it a step further:
Fire can warm a home or burn it down. Water can nourish a garden or flood a village. Even our thoughts can become prisons or pathways. Almost everything in life has the potential to create or destroy. Awareness is no different.
That understanding shifts the focus away from “I feel too much” and toward personal responsibility.
Think of it this way
Knowing without wisdom creates fear. Knowing with wisdom creates compassion. Boom. Did I just blow your mind? Fear is created when you lack wisdom of the situation.
When you notice something, what story do you tell yourself about it? The same feeling can lead to very different outcomes.
I feel tension in this room. I need to escape.
I feel tension in this room. Maybe someone needs kindness.
I feel tension in this room. I’m going to stay grounded before I decide what it means.
The feeling may be the same. The interpretation changes everything. The purpose of spiritual awareness isn’t to make us more fragile. It’s to make us more conscious of our thoughts, our words, and more aware of the energy we contribute to the world. Every room we enter becomes slightly different because we entered it. The question isn’t whether you’re sensitive enough to notice energy.
The question is: “What energy are you bringing?”
This is where I struggle with the conversation around empaths and sensitivity. So often I hear, ‘Well…I’m an empath, so…and the sentence that follows is usually about why they can’t. I can’t be around crowds.’ I can’t be around negative people. ‘I absorb everyone’s emotions.’ I understand those experiences. But I don’t believe awareness was ever meant to become an excuse. It was meant to become an invitation. This beautiful ability stops feeling like a burden when we learn how to use it.
In shadow work, we often hear the phrase, ‘Name it to tame it.’ But I think it’s incomplete. I think that’s only half the journey. If you name it and stop there, it can become your identity. The label was meant to bring freedom quietly not become the cage. The purpose of naming something isn’t to carry it forever. It’s to understand it well enough that it becomes wisdom. Awareness without transformation becomes heaviness. Awareness with transformation becomes wisdom.
Energy is simply information. Wisdom is knowing what to do with that information.
Don’t build a home around your wound. Build a bridge from it. The shadow was never meant to become your identity. It was meant to become your education. Every experience asks us a question:
The same experience can harden one heart and soften another. The difference isn’t what happened. The difference is what we chose to do with the knowing. Will this become my excuse…or will it become my wisdom?
Everything is information. Nothing has to become your identity. Grief can become compassion. Fear can become discernment. Sensitivity can become awareness. Pain can become purpose.
The goal of spiritual growth isn’t to collect labels. It’s transforming experiences into wisdom, so what once weighed you down becomes something that helps you walk more lightly and helps others do the same.
Everything is information.Energy is information.Emotions are information.Fear is information.Joy is information.Nothing arrives simply to weigh us down.Everything arrives asking, "What can I teach you?”
The question isn’t: What am I feeling? The deeper question is, "What is this experience inviting me to become?”
Our wounds deserve compassion. They deserve attention. They deserve healing. But they were never meant to become our permanent address. Don’t build a home around your wound. Build a bridge from it. Every challenge carries the possibility of becoming wisdom.
Pain can become purpose. Grief can become compassion. Sensitivity can become discernment. Fear can become courage.
A sensitive person without awareness may feel like they are constantly defending themselves from the world. But a person who has developed wisdom becomes like Wonder Woman with her bracelets. You are not using this power to fight everything that comes toward them, but using their awareness to decide what they allow in, what they deflect, and what they transform.
Are you using your sensitivity as a shield to hide behind, or as a bracelet of wisdom that helps you stand in your power?
Wonder Woman’s bracelets, often called the Bracelets of Submission or Bracelets of Victory, have a much deeper symbolism than simply being a superhero accessory. They represent strength that is controlled by wisdom.
In many versions of her story, the bracelets were forged from the metal of her homeland, Wonder Woman’s Amazon heritage, and they carry several meanings:
1. Strength with restraint
The bracelets are powerful, but their greatest message is not “I can fight.” It is: “I have power, and I choose how I use it.” They allow her to block weapons and protect herself, but they are not primarily weapons themselves. They represent mastery over reaction.
Feeling energy is the power. Choosing your response is the wisdom.
2. Protection without closing the heart
Wonder Woman does not wear armor because she fears the world. She wears protection because she understands the world. The bracelets don’t tell her, “Hide.” They tell her, “Stand grounded.”
Not: “I must protect myself from everyone.” But: “I can remain open while staying rooted in myself.”
3. Turning pain into purpose
In some interpretations, the bracelets are connected to the Amazon story of hardship and resilience. They symbolize taking what once represented limitation or suffering and transforming it into a source of strength.
The connection to shadow-work: The things that once bound us can become the tools that teach us.
4. Balance of feminine and warrior energy
The bracelets are a wonderful symbol because they combine two energies:
The warrior: courage, boundaries, protection, and action
The healer: compassion, restraint, wisdom, and love
She doesn’t fight because she hates. She fights because she loves enough to protect. Protection without isolation, it is strength with compassion, power with wisdom and boundaries without closing the heart.
The goal isn’t to become someone who feels nothing. The goal is to become someone who can feel deeply and remain centered.
Let’s look at it as your awareness is your instrument. Don’t make your sensitivity your identity. Make it your instrument. Think about a violin. By itself, it creates no music. In the hands of someone willing to learn, it creates beauty. Awareness works the same way. It isn’t the gift. Learning to use it with wisdom is.
Every spiritual journey follows the same path. Awareness. Understanding. Release. Reflection. Wisdom. Service.
We notice. We become curious. We release what no longer serves us. We reflect. Then our experiences become something we can offer the world. That’s how healing spreads. Not because we never struggle…but because we choose to grow through what we notice.
I’ve always loved the image of a lighthouse. It doesn’t chase the ships nor does it absorb the storm. It doesn’t argue with the waves. It remains anchored. And because it remains anchored…others find their way home. That’s what mature awareness looks like. Not carrying everyone’s emotions and hiding from the world. Standing firmly in your own light.
I hope you don’t leave here today saying, ‘I’m an empath.’ I hope you leave saying, ‘I pay attention.’ ‘I choose my thoughts carefully.’ ‘I transform experience into wisdom.’ ‘I bring peace wherever I go.’ Because life is always speaking to us.
Through grief and spiritual awakening: the thing that breaks us open can become the thing that helps us serve. I don’t want you to leave this talk thinking, “I need to protect my energy.” I want to impress upon you to change it to, “I need to develop my wisdom.”
The full journey: Notice → Understand → Release → Reflect → Transform
The question isn’t whether guidance is present. The question is: Are we aware enough to notice…Courageous enough to release…Reflective enough to understand…And wise enough to respond? Perhaps the greatest spiritual gift isn’t sensing the energy in the room. Maybe it is becoming the person whose presence changes the room. That is awareness. That is wisdom. And that is how we quietly change the world.
The world doesn’t need more people hiding because they feel deeply. The world needs people who have learned how to transform what they feel into compassion. It needs people who can walk into a room and bring peace instead of absorbing chaos. People who don’t just sense the energy around them…but become the energy they hope to see in the world.
And then you realize:
Your sensitivity was never meant to be a wall between you and the world. It was meant to become a bridge. The bridge that leads you to live the life you love and love the life you live.
Have a magical day,
Stacey
